• Details are Your Friend

Imagining your most precious belongings being destroyed or stolen is not fun. Have you thought about the brand name or the serial number of your favorite device? Would you remember how much you paid for your DSLR camera? Without a point of reference like a list or excel spreadsheet, the details of your valuables could get lost - which will cause more frustration for you in one of the most stressful moments of your life - or cost you valuable dollars in the long run.

  • What is My Personal Property Inventory Checklist?

Your checklist is a complete list or spreadsheet which lists all of your household goods and personal belongings. A complete inventory includes the following information about each item on your list:

    • Which room of the house it is located

    • Item quantity and description

    • Purchase date

    • Purchase Place

    • Original Cost and Estimated Current Value

    • Brand, Model Number, and Serial Number

    • Photographs or video of each item

    • Receipts or current appraisals for your valuable items.

  • When Is My Inventory Complete?

Once you have taken inventory, pictures, and video, make a copy of them. Store the originals in a secure place in your house, and the copy off-premises like a safe deposit box or a relative. Take time to update your inventory every six to 12 months to account for new or discarded items.
